                                               THE BEST VEGGIE BURGERS EVER!

Hello everyone! I'm back this week with the long awaited recipe to veggie burgers. I got this recipe from the YouTube sensation/the coolest vegans ever "Hot for Food". Hot for Food is a couple duo (Lauren and John) who pull together amazing vegan recipes. They've made crab cakes, yacho fries, chick'un sandwiches, taco salad, and so much more! Give them a look, and subscribe, you won't regret it. Now let's get to this recipe!

Ingredients:

1 large yellow onion

2 tbsp coconut oil

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp agave nectar (or coconut sugar / brown sugar)

1 package gardein ultimate beefless ground (approx. 3 cups)

1 - 15 oz can black beans

1/2 C vital wheat gluten

1/2 tsp chipotle chili powder

1/2 tsp cumin

1. You need to start with a thawed package of gardein beefless ground, so either leave it in the fridge over night (best option) or remove the contents of the package into a large mixing bowl and let it sit on the counter until it's thawed.

2. To caramelize the onion slice it evenly and sauté in a pan with coconut oil over medium heat for about 10 minutes stirring occasionally. Add in salt and stir to coat the onions. Then don't stir them much to allow them to brown and let them cook for another 10 minutes. Add in a teaspoon of agave nectar (or other sugar) and toss again to coat all the onions. Sauté for another 5-10 minutes.

3. Drain and rinse the black beans and add to a food processor with the caramelized onions. Process until it makes a smooth paste.

4. Add this mixture to the beefless ground in a mixing bowl along with vital wheat gluten, cumin, and paprika, and mix by hand until it's well combined.

5. Form patties by hand so that they're 3 1/2 inches in diameter x 3/4 inch thick. This is based on the size of the buns we used, but they also cook well at this size. You can either bbq them and or pan fry while basting them in your favourite bbq sauce. They take about 2-3 minutes each side, plus another 2-3 minutes once the sauce is on them.

6. If you want to melt vegan cheese on the burgers do it after one side has been cooked with bbq sauce. I'm using "Go Veggie!" cheddar cheese.

7. Dress the burgers however you like and serve immediately! I put Dijon mustard, ketchup, vegan mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onion.
